Sinus Lift

A sinus lift, also known as sinus augmentation, is a surgical procedure that increases the amount of bone in the upper jaw to support the placement of dental implants. This procedure is typically required when the sinuses are too close to the jaw for implants to be placed safely.

What to Expect:

  • Consultation and Evaluation: The first step involves a thorough evaluation of your dental and medical history, and advanced imaging such as X-rays or CT scans to assess the anatomy of your jaw and sinuses.
  • Procedure: The sinus lift involves gently lifting the sinus membrane and placing a bone graft material into the sinus cavity, which increases the height and width of the bone available for implant placement.
    • Types of Bone Used: We can use different types of bone graft materials, including:
      • Autogenous bone (from your own body),
      • Allogenic bone (from a donor),
      • Xenogenic bone (from another species),
      • Synthetic materials, which can stimulate bone formation.
  • Healing and Recovery: Post-surgery, you’ll need several months for the grafted material to mesh with your bone. Follow-up visits are essential to monitor the healing process.
  • Preparation for Implants: Once healed, the new bone in the sinus makes it possible to install dental implants in a subsequent procedure.

Benefits of a Sinus Lift:

  • Enables Dental Implants: Essential for patients who need upper jaw dental implants but do not have sufficient bone height.
  • Improves Long-Term Implant Success: Provides a strong foundation for new teeth, ensuring they are secure and long-lasting.
  • Enhances Oral Health and Functionality: Supports overall facial structure and improves oral function.
