Bone Grafts

Bone grafting is a specialized procedure designed to enhance or rebuild the jawbone, typically necessary before dental implant placement when the existing bone structure is insufficient. At Medina Dental Care, we use advanced bone grafting techniques to ensure the best foundation for future dental restorations.

What to Expect:

  • Consultation: We start with a comprehensive evaluation to determine the need for a bone graft. This includes assessing your bone density and overall oral health.
  • Types of Bone Grafts:
    • Autograft: Bone taken from your own body, such as from another part of the jaw or hip.
    • Allograft: Bone sourced from a human donor.
    • Xenograft: Bone from an animal source, typically bovine.
    • Synthetic: Artificial bone-like materials that encourage bone growth and regeneration.
  • Procedure: The chosen bone graft material is placed into the area needing augmentation. The site is then secured and allowed to heal, during which the graft material fuses with the existing bone.
  • Healing and Follow-Up: Post-procedure, we monitor the healing process through follow-up appointments and additional imaging to ensure the graft is integrating properly, preparing the site for any further reconstructive work like implants.

Benefits of Bone Grafts:

  • Enables Dental Implants: Bone grafts provide the necessary support for dental implants, making them feasible for patients with bone loss.
  • Restores Functionality and Aesthetics: By rebuilding the jawbone, bone grafts help maintain facial structure and improve the functionality of your jaw.
  • Long-Term Oral Health: Strengthening your jawbone can prevent further bone deterioration and contribute to overall oral health.
